(1942–95), American rock singer and guitarist; full name Jerome John Garcia. Garcia was the central figure of the Grateful Dead, a group formed c.1966. Mixing psychedelic rock with country and blues influences in lengthy improvisations, the band toured extensively until Garcia's death.
