(1859–1947), US suffragist; full name Carrie Clinton Lane Chapman Catt. As president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association 1900–04, 1915–47 and of the International Woman Suffrage Alliance 1904–23, she was instrumental in the adoption of the 19th amendment to the Constitution in 1920.
